Learning At Home

We know that children learn best when school and home work together. The support you give your child at home plays an important role in building confidence, reinforcing skills, and helping learning feel meaningful and enjoyable.

To help with this, we send home weekly spellings and activities through our termly newsletters. These are designed to link closely with what your child is learning in class and to be short, practical, and easy to fit into everyday routines.

Our Focus: Phonics and Reading

Our main focus for learning at home is phonics and reading, as these skills are the building blocks for all areas of learning.

Phonics helps children learn how sounds work and how to use them to read and write. Practising phonics at home helps children:

  • Remember and recognise sounds

  • Blend sounds together to read words

  • Feel more confident when writing

Little and often works best — even a few minutes of practice can make a big difference.

Reading together at home is one of the most valuable things you can do to support your child. Regular reading helps children to:

  • Improve fluency and understanding

  • Develop vocabulary

  • Build a love of books and stories

We encourage parents and carers to read with their child as often as possible, talk about the book, ask simple questions, and celebrate effort as well as success.

Working Together

We understand that families are busy, and learning at home should never feel stressful. Our aim is to support children in a positive way and to make learning something they enjoy.

Thank you for the support you give your child — it really does make a difference. If you ever have questions or would like ideas for helping at home, please speak to your child’s teacher. We are always happy to help.
